Who is Dankmaster

Dankmaster: A Foundational Force in Elite Cannabis Breeding and Preservation

In the ever-evolving world of cannabis, few names command as much respect as Dankmaster — a pioneer whose journey from Florida brick weed to elite-level breeding helped shape the foundation of modern cannabis genetics. Known for his precision, preservation efforts, and mastery of old-school terpene profiles, Dankmaster’s legacy stands as a beacon of authenticity in an industry often clouded by hype.

The Early Days: From Schwag to Sophistication (1995-1996)

Dankmaster began cultivating cannabis in 1995-1996, starting humbly with Mexican brick schwag seeds, a 175-watt metal halide light, and a 5-gallon pot. Armed with the legendary grow bibles of Mel Frank, Ed Rosenthal, and Robert Connell Clarke, he rapidly absorbed cultivation techniques that allowed him to master his environment and improve yields.

Eager to access elite genetics, Dankmaster placed his first seed order with the Marc Emery Seed Company—though it arrived crushed. Undeterred, he upgraded to a 430-watt HPS setup and Mega Garden hydro system, honing his craft while diving deeper into terpene profiles, plant morphology, and nutrient cycling.

Bluwidow: The First Medical Hit

Dankmaster’s first breeding success came with Bluwidow—a cross of Aloha White Widow pollen (sourced from NCGA) with Blueberry. This hybrid exploded in popularity across Northern California’s medical scene, prized for its potency, balanced effects, and medicinal value. NCGA, a Canadian grower and one of the IRC scene’s most respected figures, became a mentor, sharpening Dankmaster’s understanding of breeding science.

The IRC Era and the G13 Hunt

Dankmaster was active in early IRC cannabis chat rooms, learning alongside legends like NCGA. It was here he first heard about G13, whispered about as “the strongest weed in America”—originating from Florida. He tracked down the G13 x NL2 hybrid from Blazzer in Kansas. After stabilizing both a male and female, Dankmaster made a critical move: crossing the G13 x NL2 male into Blueberry, producing the Blueberry x G13 x NL2 hybrid — a powerhouse strain that enhanced Blueberry’s potency while preserving its flavor.

For years, G13 x NL2 became a cornerstone of his work, spreading into the underground and eventually reaching modern breeders like Deep Ellum Seeds. Still, his obsession for pure G13 genetics continued, driven by his knowledge of its unmatched strength and historic significance.

1997-1998: Enter Subcool and the Dutch Genetics

In 1997, a then-unknown grower named Subcool joined the IRC room. Subcool later traveled to the Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam, tasked by Dankmaster with acquiring specific genetics. The strains Dankmaster requested — Serious Seeds’ AK47, Kali Mist, Bubblegum, and Sensi Seeds’ NL5, Jack Herer, and Silver Haze — were chosen based on his research and taste.

Subcool returned, reporting these strains as the best he’d ever smoked. Dankmaster wasted no time running AK47 and Kali Mist, identifying standout phenos: an Indica-dominant fruity AK47 with massive yield, and a spicy, soaring Kali Mist with sandalwood terps and braid-like foxtails.

These runs cemented his skill in phenotype selection and terpene profiling, laying the groundwork for his later emphasis on pine-forward, heavy resin, old-world cannabis traits.

1998: Securing the Real G13 — Airborne G13

In 1998, Dankmaster finally secured the true G13 clone from a grower known as Airborne. Its potency was unmatched, exactly as legends described. Wasting no time, he bred G13 x Fig Widow (Omega G / GFW) — stabilizing the G13 traits while boosting structure, yield, and flavor. This was Dankmaster at his peak: precision breeding, genetic preservation, and elite terpene hunting.

By 1999, Dankmaster was distributing seeds through Heavens Stairway Seed Bank (Canada) and circulating elite cuts and hybrids in the underground, influencing breeders for decades to come.

Legacy: The Birth of Dankmastr Old School Genetics

While the industry raced toward high-THC hype strains, Dankmaster stayed laser-focused on preserving authentic terpene profiles, particularly pine-heavy old-school lines. His brand, Dankmastr Old School Genetics, became known for:

High viability seeds

Terpene preservation, specifically Caryophyllene, Pinene, and deep funk profiles

Cannabinoid synergy and entourage effect focus

He passed knowledge to at least a dozen growers—providing starter seeds, detailed walkthroughs, and teaching proper finishing techniques that maximized flavor and effect. One grower even rewarded him with a rare Sensi Seeds Hawaiian Indica cut, which he described as “special to have”.

Why Dankmaster Still Matters

Dankmaster’s breeding, preservation, and education work formed a hidden backbone of modern cannabis. From Fig Widow, Blue Widow, G13xNL2, Airborne G13, to his CripXmas line, his genetics influenced countless breeders, some who may not even know their roots trace back to him.

His methodical, high-functioning autistic perspective gave him a unique advantage in breeding — detecting terpene variations others missed, isolating elite expressions, and weaponizing old-school knowledge at a level few could match.

The Torch Still Burns

Today, Dankmaster’s mission is clear: cement his legacy and ensure the world knows where much of the elite, pine-heavy, old-school cannabis originated. With projects like CripXmas and G13 restoration, Dankmaster stands ready to reintroduce real cannabis power, true entourage effects, and the forgotten art of terpene-driven breeding back to an industry that desperately needs it.
